What you'll accomplish

  • Complete the configuration or task described in this guide for your Boxis service.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the interface, device, or server described below.
  • Information or credentials you received from Boxis (contract, welcome e-mail, or client area).

Note Boxis: Offers and screens may differ slightly depending on your product. When in doubt, open a support ticket with your service reference.

Web Disk (also known as WebDAV) is a drag-and-drop interface in cPanel which allows you to access your website's files as if it were a local drive on your computer. (The same results can be accomplished using FTP via Windows Explorer.)

Note: Web Disk connection is a known issue in cPanel, and your results when connecting may vary. While we will do our best to assist you in troubleshooting connection issues, the amount of support we can provide may be very limited.

Connect to Web Disk

Typical connection instructions:

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. In the Files section, click the Web Disk icon.
  3. Scroll down to the Main Web Disk Account section and click Access Web Disk.
  4. Choose your operating system (for your personal computer).
  5. Click Download Quick Start Script.
  6. In the File Download pop-up, click Save File and save the file to your local computer.
  7. On your computer, open and run the file.

You can now view website files from your personal computer. You can also drag and drop files from your local drive to your website.

Accessing a Web Disk using Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8

Connecting to Web Disk

With cPanel's release of version 11.40, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 users can now connect to Web Disk through an auto setup script (see instructions above) or a manual connection.

If you are running Windows XP or Windows Vista on your desktop, you may need to download a patch from Microsoft's website in order to use Web Disk.

Connecting to Web Disk with No SSL

If you use Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 to access Web Disk over an unencrypted connection, cPanel requires that you enable Digest Authentication. If you have a signed SSL certificate for your domain, Digest Authentication is not necessary.

Web Digest authentication is an unencrypted authentication method. This means that your cPanel credentials may be transmitted in plain text. It is highly recommended that you use FTP instead as it is more secure. To enable Digest Authentication:

  1. Click Enable Digest Authentication. A confirmation dialog box will appear.
  2. Click OK.

To disable Digest Authentication:

  1. Click Disable Digest Authentication. A confirmation dialog box will appear.
  2. Click OK.

Expected result

  • The product behaves as described in each step (connectivity, message, or UI state).

If something goes wrong

  • Repeat the step and check for typos (hostnames, passwords, ports).
  • Note the exact error message or screenshot.
  • Open a ticket in the Boxis client area with the service name, time of the test, and any trace (e.g. traceroute) if it is a network issue.
